Elspeth Wyllie seated playing a grand piano, and Catherine Backhouse singing in front. Both dressed in black concert dresses, in a church.

Critic George Upton once wrote that women were too emotionally volatile for the exact science of composition and should only serve as mothers and muses of great men. Against such opposition it is remarkable that so many songs of great quality and beauty exist, and a shame that many remain on the fringes of standard repertoire.

Catherine and Elspeth have crafted a varied programme of their favourite songs by composers including Clara Schumann, Rebecca Clarke, Amy Beach, Thea Musgrave and Pauline Viardot.
