Amalie Trio (mezzo-soprano, viola & piano) share a performance with Eleanor Janes and Maya Soltan, based on works and music written by, for, and about women.

The first half of the concert features the London premiere of Sonata for viola & piano by Sally Beamish, performed alongside the work that inspired it – Schumann’s Frauenliebe und leben. The end of life is the subject of a trio by William Bolcom, Let Evening Come, that sets the texts of three female American poets – Maya Angelou, Emily Dickenson and Jane Kenyon.

The second half is a performance of Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine, sung by Eleanor Janes with Maya Soltan at the piano, and directed by PJ Harris. An emotionally powerful monodrama, La voix humaine is one side of a telephone conversation between a suicidal woman and her ex-lover.
