Elspeth and violist Alexa Beattie return to their home county of East Lothian, to present Sally Beamish’s viola sonata which was originally commissioned by Haddington Concert Society in 2001. They will precede it with an arrangement of Schumann’s famous song cycle which inspired Beamish’s work.
Brahms and Schumann were close friends, and Brahms sonata is one of his best-known chamber works. The suite by Falla is influenced by songs from different regions of Spain, and return us to the theme of song which opens this programme.
